Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (to Sicily)

This morning I packed up all of my things and said bye to the boys, since they had to get up relatively early to go to their first days of classes. Valerio was very nice and took me to see Saint Peter's Square, which wasn't too crowded thankfully. He then dropped me off at the train station (after driving around in Rome in his car, which was a little terrifying), where I took the train to Fiumicino airport. I found my plane alright (although I had to pay a lot because my huge bag was overweight which sucked) and had to get very sedated for this one because it was a tiny little plane. Again, I don't remember the plane ride. Once I landed in Catania, I had to get on a bus to take me to Siracusa, and I got off at the last stop in Ortigia. Tyler was supposed to meet me there, but my bus arrived early, so I was wandering around the shady bus stop at night with all of my bags obviously looking like I had no idea where I was. I was exhausted and scared and asked a lot of people (pantomiming and speaking in english) if I could borrow their phone to call Ty, but of course no one would let me. I started walking down the street asking various shops if I could use their phone, of course no one would let me either...just when I was about to absolutely freak out Ty happened to walk by the bakery I was in so I screamed and flipped out and cried out of relief. She was with her roommate, Jenna, and we all sat down and had coffee and nutella croissants (yum) so that I could pull my life together and calm down. We all walked back to her apartment, where I met her other roommate, Cate. They have a beautiful loft apartment and everyone loves cooking and eating so I'm excited for the week.

Saint Peter's Basilica

The center of the square - when you stand here, it looks like there is only 1 column around the square, when there are actually 4.
